Own a piece of sporting history Until 1965, the FA Cup remained a notable absentee in the Liverpool trophy room. Six league titles had been achieved, but for 73 years, success in the World's greatest knockout competition had eluded them, until one fateful afternoon when it all changed. Forever remembered as the greatest day in the club's history, it was a day that many supporters thought they would never see. But it would be third time lucky for the Reds facing a Leeds United side that had surprised the form books by finishing second in the league after only one season back in the top-flight. A strong physical battle was expected, and the match lived up to all the billing. With only 9 minutes on the clock Gerry Byrne sustained an injury that was to become part of Liverpool folklore. Breaking his collarbone in a challenge with Bobby Collins, Byrne didn't realise the full extent of his injury, and valiantly played on for the rest of the match. After a goalless 90 minutes, extra time was needed, but with only 3 minutes of the 1st half played the deadlock was broken. Gerry Byrne still suffering from the injury he sustained early in the match, whipped in a cross that was met by the diving header of Roger Hunt, and the red half of Wembley celebrated. Leeds looked beaten, but 8 minutes later the scoreline was level once again as Billy Bremner volleyed the equaliser past Lawrence. But not to be denied, back Liverpool came and with only 9 minutes remaining, Ian St. John dived to head the winner past Reaney on the line. The goal not only clinched the one honour they had longed for, but signalled the start of a 20 year plus reign as the kings of English, and for a time, European football. Personally signed Each copy of Liverpool FACup Winners 1965 was personally signed by Ian St John, who scored the winning goal in the final, at a signing session completed on Tuesday 24th October 2006.
