The 1985 Snooker World Championship final was undoubtedly one of the most enthralling sporting contests of modern times. A record British television audience of 18.5 million watched Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis battling it out late into the night. The match had started badly for Taylor; he was 8-0 down when Steve Davis missed a green and let Taylor in to win his first frame. Taylor showed incredible determination to fight back to 9-7 and eventually levelled the scores at 11-11. With the two men level on 17 frames each, Steve Davis was 18 points ahead with just 22 remaining on the table. Taylor cleared the brown, blue and pink but missed a double on the black to leave Davis a reasonably easy black for his third consecutive World Championship title and his fourth in five years. Davis missed the black, Taylor missed, and unbelievably Davis missed again. On his third attempt, Dennis Taylor sank the black and began his unforgettable celebration. Cue above his head, he danced a jig, wagging his finger in sheer delight at the conclusion of an incredible sporting moment.
