The 1995-96 season produced one of Cantona's greatest campaigns in a Manchester United shirt. After returning to the team, the Frenchman played a pivotal role as United overturned Newcastle United's advantage at the top of the Premier League and went on to secure another league title.

Cantona then produced one of the defining moments of his Manchester United career in the 1996 FA Cup Final against Liverpool at Wembley. With the match goalless, Cantona scored the late winning goal to secure a 1-0 victory and complete a historic Premier League and FA Cup Double for United.

Cantona went on to captain Manchester United during the 1996-97 season as the club successfully retained the Premier League title. It proved to be his final season as a professional footballer, bringing an extraordinary five-year spell at Old Trafford to an end.
